Leadership
Leadership is something people allow you to do.
A title comes with responsibility. Trust takes time. People need to know you care about their future as much as you care about what they can do for the team today.
Nearly a decade in sales and leadership
The work was always about people.
At Verizon, I grew through Assistant Manager and Senior Manager roles between 2014 and 2023. The work combined coaching, customer relationships, sales, and the daily responsibility of running a team.
Some of my proudest leadership wins weren’t promotions. They were watching people I’d coached gain enough confidence to pursue bigger opportunities, even when those opportunities took them off my team.
My experience includes 27% gross-sales growth in 2022 and a 45% increase in SMB sales. Those results belong alongside the people side of leadership: clear expectations, honest feedback, and follow-through.

I want someone I’ve coached to leave with more confidence and better judgment. If they can handle something without needing me in the room, that’s progress.
A title gives authority. Respect gives permission to lead.
See the human first.
You don’t always know what someone is carrying when they come to work. I still believe in accountability. I also believe you can have a difficult conversation without taking away someone’s dignity. These are a few things I try to remember:
- Protect your people when they’re right.
- Tell them when they’re wrong.
- Don’t confuse accountability with humiliation.
- Don’t keep someone small because their growth inconveniences you.
- Ask for what you want.
- Treat people with dignity.
- Leave people better than you found them.
